Teeth that have had properly performed endodontic (root canal) treatment will last as long as the other natural teeth. In some cases a tooth that has received endodontic treatment fails to heal and/or the discomfort continues. Occasionally the tooth becomes painful or diseased months or years after root canal treatment.
If the tooth has failed to heal and/or has developed new problems endodontic retreatment can be successfully performed so as to retain the tooth.
